BROOD

Brood refers to a family of offspring; a breed, species, group or kind. It means to dwell on a particular subject. It can also be used to describe a collection of things, cared for and valued. The Dubbo Regional Gallery collection focuses on the animal as an ongoing inspiration for artists. From tender depictions of domestic animals to symbolic representations of animal characteristics, the collection explores the wide ranging nature of animal references in Australian art. As the brood grows, so does the potential for variety, diversification and peculiarity. This exhibition will feature new works acquired through the generous support of the Friends of WPCC and the Gallery’s 21st Birthday Collection Appeal.
