MUSEUM WORKSHOPS

THAT OLD STUFF!

This workshop introduces students to the idea of a Museum – what it does and how it does it. It begins by challenging students to choose what needs to be, and can be, preserved, and then guides them through a discovery of what the Dubbo Regional Museum does collect. A final hands-on session sees the students constructing a museum of their visit. A great introduction to museums and what they do.

THE GOLDEN HIGHWAY

An investigation of how gold changed the way of life for people living in central NSW. Using museum objects, photographs, documents and literature, students will look at the changes the discovery of gold brought to the region. Miners, women, Chinese immigrants and bushrangers all feature in this exciting story. In a final activity, students will get the chance to role-play a scene on the gold-fields, to understand the impact on the individual of rapid change and development.

IT WON'T LAST

How do museums conserve the past? This workshop will answer those questions with students getting first-hand experience at conserving things that are important to them. Basic conservation techniques will be taught, as well as how object preservation alters our understanding of the past. Students will also get to take home conservation materials so they can continue to preserve their valuable belongings at home.

YOU'RE LIVING IN THE PAST

Students take on the role of a museum curator, running anything from the Museum of Work, The Sports Museum to the Centre for the Study of Colonial Women. They research their group using a variety of sources, and then use this newfound information to choose objects for their museum. They then guide their fellow classmates around their museum. A great way for students to research a society and give their own interpretations.

YOUNGER ART

Be inspired by some up-front inspection of great art. Using the works on display at the Dubbo Regional Gallery – The Armati Bequest, students will reproduce them in their own images, using a variety of media. IT'S MINE

Students take on the role of corporate art buyers in this fun workshop where students get to understand the relationships between the artist, the world and the audience. Each corporation has very firm ideas on what art they are interested in, and students must assess the art on show and then bid against others to get the works they want. A fun and engaging way of getting students to look into artworks from a variety of viewpoints.
