BOOK SIGNING

MADELEINE WINCH, Author & Illustrator of COME BY CHANCE will be signing copies of her book at the Western Plains Cultural Centre on SATURDAY 6 MARCH at 11am.

Madeleine's much loved children's book has been republished by Walker Books and to celebrate the WPCC has staged an exhibition of the complete set of the original illustrations for the book, from the Dubbo Regional Gallery collection. The Children's Gallery has been transformed into Bertha's home, and is now home to a gorgeous set of animals created specifically for the exhibtiion by Catherine Stein.

Books will be available for purchase at WPCC reception.

THE ANIMAL IN ART - THE HISTORICAL ANIMAL

THURSDAY 11 MARCH 7PM

The Animal in Art lecture series turns historical this quarter!

Andrew Glassop (Acting Manager, WPCC) will look at the role that Animals have played in the development of Western New South Wales and examine the co-opertaive relationship between man and animal that made Dubbo possible.

Matthew Fuller, General Manager of Taronga Western Plains Zoo, gives us an insight into the history of the Zoo, its site and development and the importance of the Zoo to the history of Dubbo .

Entry by donation. All funds raised go to education and conservation projects.

The Animal in Art is a series of talks designed to further our understanding of animals and their ecology through art and science. This series features speakers from the biological, zoological and art worlds in a fascinating exchange of ideas and insights. Proceeds from these talks go to conservation and education projects run by the Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Western Plains Cultural Centre.

MEMORY BANK

So, You Know You Can Dance is an exhibition and archive relating to the history of Dance in Dubbo. The exhibition examines the role of Dance in society from settlement to contemporary times, using objects, photographs and documents from the Dubbo Regional Museum collection and the community. The exhibition examines the variety of dance styles in Dubbo's history and features a video interview with the matriarch of Dance in Dubbo, Joyce Schneider, OAM.

MEMORY BANK

Every Sunday during the exhibition at 11am the WPCC invites members of the community to view the exhibition and record their memories of dance for the Dubbo Regional Museum archives. Come along and tell us your memories...it doesn't matter how old you are, and its free!

FILM FILM FILM

Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) is pleased to join forces with the Sydney Travelling Film Festival (STFF) in the presentation of one of the films at this year's festival. The Festival will screen at Readings Cinema's from 19 - 21 March.

WPCC & STFF will present SÉRAPHINE, a movingly dramatised, beautifully
mounted portrait of the French ‘naïve’ painter Séraphine de Senlis (1864–1942) on Saturday 20 March at 5pm.
